Instructions

Prepare Your Materials:

  • Gather a candlestick, foam, glue pot, four-inch ribbon, mixed greenery (pine, cedar, evergreen), and decorative picks (magnolia leaves, glittered ferns).
  • Ensure your candlestick is clean and ready to use. Megan recommends checking places like Carolina Pottery, Walmart, or TJ Maxx for affordable candlesticks.

Attach the Foam:

  • Cut a small piece of floral foam, enough to sit snugly on top of your candlestick.
  • Dip the base of the foam into hot glue from your glue pot, making sure the entire bottom is coated.
  • Firmly press the foam onto the candlestick and glue around the edges for extra security.

Create the Ribbon Bow:

  • Using four-inch ribbon, cut a long tail (about 8 inches) and trim the edge at an angle for a neat finish.
  • Begin making loops by twisting and pinching the ribbon, forming three loops of approximately 6-7 inches each.
  • The third loop should be about an inch smaller than the other two. Secure the loops using a zip tie or floral wire, then cut the excess ribbon at an angle.

Attach the Bow to the Foam:

  • Bend the stem you’re using to secure the bow, trimming it at an angle for easier insertion into the foam.
  • Apply glue to the stem and insert the bow into the foam, positioning it at the top center.
  • Arrange the loops so the bow looks full and airy, adjusting as needed.

Add the Greenery:

  • Begin with greenery from garland (such as pine, cedar, and evergreen).
  • Cut the pieces at an angle and place the first piece at the back of the foam for height.
  • Create a triangle placement by inserting additional pieces to the left and right, ensuring equal spacing.
  • Continue adding greenery in between the initial pieces, focusing on creating a balanced, 360-degree design. Insert some pieces directly into the bow to fill gaps and provide coverage.

Incorporate Magnolia Leaves:

  • Use dense magnolia leaves to fill in larger spaces. Place the longest stem at the top of the arrangement for height.
  • Position other magnolia leaves within the bow and the lower portion of the arrangement, keeping the triangle pattern in mind.

Add Glitter Picks:

  • For added texture, use glittered ferns or similar picks. Insert these picks at various heights and angles to break up the arrangement and add visual interest.
  • Ensure the glittered picks are placed between the greenery and magnolia leaves for a whimsical, balanced look.

Final Adjustments:

  • Check your arrangement from all angles, making sure no side looks empty or unfinished.
  • Fluff and adjust the bow and greenery as needed. Add any final touches, such as smaller picks or decorations to fill any remaining gaps.
  • Keep the arrangement long and airy for a whimsical, natural feel.

Optional Seasonal Variations:

  • This candlestick design works well for any season. For fall, substitute pine and cedar with maple leaves or fall florals, like mums or fall peonies.
  • For Valentine's Day, use red and gold ribbon with heart-shaped picks or roses.
  • Adapt the design to match wreaths or other decor you’re offering, ensuring cohesive themes.
