Instructions

DECO MESH BASE WITH SIGN ATTACHMENT:

  • Cut the mesh into 20 - 10” strips for the curls (bottom row of the wreath)
  • Cut the mesh into 8 - 18” strips for the ruffle (top row of the wreath)
  • Take 2 of your 10” strips and loosely roll up. Place them in an ‘X’ formation and attach a set to each of the lower twist ties.
  • Fluff out the curls.
  • Using the 18” strips, curl in the two ends and squeeze in the center to create a ruffle. Attach to each top level twist tie.
  • Take a quick once over and fluff as needed.
  • Add pipe cleaners to the back of your sign, use hot glue to secure in place.

BOW:

  • You will be making a total of 3 bows. These are the steps to create a single bow.
  • Using your EZ Bow Maker, start with a 4” ribbon creating an 8” tail, pulling your tail downward.
  • Create a 6.5” loop on each side, diagonal from each other. Make sure to pull the end tail diagonal from the opposite tail.
  • Repeat with your 2nd 4” ribbon, this time starting in the opposite direction with your tail facing to the top right.
  • Next, repeat the same process using a 2.5” wired ribbon. This time you’ll be going over the first set of loops that you did in step 2. Each loop will progressively be smaller than the last.
  • Repeat again using the next style of 2.5” wired ribbon. Remember, 8” tails with a slightly smaller loop than the last set. This time you’re following the loops from step 3.
  • Continue with the 3rd pattern of 2.5” ribbon.
  • You’ll finish off the bow with your 4th pattern of 2.5” ribbon, this time only creating one loop.
  • Tie off the bow with a pipe cleaner.
  • Attach the bottom bow first, then the top, and then secure the center bow. It’ll make placement so much easier, every single time!
  • Now go fluff out them bows, friends!
  • Next, cut your tails into dovetails at different lengths.

RIBBONS TAILS:

  • Get out your ribbon tail board and your 4" ribbon.
  • Wrap 4" ribbon around the ribbon tail board 5x. Cut into (10) 14" strips.
  • Dovetail the ends.
  • Wrap your 2.5" ribbon around the ribbon tail board 5x. Cut into (10) 14" strips.
  • Dovetail the ends.
  • Repeat with a different 2.5” ribbon.
  • Layer one of each ribbon tail, with the 4" ribbon strip on the bottom. Fold in half, scrunch in the middle, and add to the wreath ties.
  • Fan out the ribbon tails. and Make sure it all points out to make the wreath look bigger.
  • Repeat previous 2 steps until you add ribbon tails to each wreath tie on the bottom.

Notes

Sign
If your sign doesn’t have areas to attach pipe cleaners, add craft foam pieces to each corner of your sign. Get 4 pipe cleaners and staple each pipe cleaner to the craft foam pieces. Twist and tighten each of the pipe cleaners.
Mesh
  • Using a 10 yd roll of deco mesh we determined that each strip should be cut into 18” for the ruffles and 10” for the curls.
    • To determine this we converted the yardage into inches (10 yards x 3 ft x 12 inches = 360 inches) and divided that into the amount of ties on the wreath frame. In this case, 18 - 20” strips, but to be safe we cut them into 18” to avoid a mesh shortage
  • Always cut your curls first, because the closer you get to the cardboard the tighter the curl comes out.
  • Using poly burlap mesh or thicker mesh results in a fuller look, without having to use more materials than necessary.
Wreath
  • If your ties slide on your frame, tighten them by crimping each one against the bracket with a plier.
  • When adding the 10” curls to your wreath, make sure to get it as close to the base of the ties as possible and twist tightly. Your mesh should not move around or flip.
Bows & Ribbon Tails
  • Whenever you’re making your bow, you want to keep the ribbons that are the same colors next to each other in the bow making process. So when you fluff out your loops they will show a nice balance between all the patterns and colors.
  • Set your bows on the wreath so that the tip of the loops are at the edge of your sign.
  • Ribbon tails are like filler, so use the most inexpensive ribbons that have the same colors in your bows.
  • Take a final look, if you need to fill in any gaps add more ribbon tails. If there’s no tie near the gap, add a ribbon tail using a pipe cleaner.
