Double Door Witch Rails

Instructions

Prepping Your Mesh

  • Grab your 10” mesh and lay it flat on your workspace.
  • On your cutting board with a rotary cutter blade, and cut it in 20” segments.
  • Set aside.

Prepping Your Witch Rails

  • Grab 4 chenille stems and slide it through to create 4 different spots to tie on your mesh. Twist in place. (You could do 6-8 if you really want it full.)
  • Be sure your ties are on nice and tight.

Making Your Mesh Cruffles and Ruffles

  • Grab your 10” mesh. With your mesh, you will curl in your cut edges inside and tuck it in - about a curl and ½ on each side. Then walk the rest together and make a pinch to make it look like a butterfly. This is a CRUFFLE = (Curl + Ruffle). You will connect to keep smooth and frayed sections as to not be seen.
  • You will add them to your rails, using chenille stems to secure in the center. Lay the cruffles, horizontally.
  • In the same chenille stem, make a ruffle by laying your mesh flat, then walking your fingers from one end to the other of your mesh, pinching together at center. You will add it with your cruffle mesh and alternate the angle in which to tie it in to create a fuller look.
  • Remember to fluff your mesh. It will be a full rail when all is said and done, so don’t stress about placement.
  • Repeat until your rail is full.
  • If you have extra mesh pieces, that is okay. We can use them later on another project.

Prepping Your Ribbon

  • Cut 3 different types of 2 ½” Halloween colored ribbons into 14” ribbon sections. I have 8 of 2 different types of bright ribbons and 4 of 1 other ribbon.
  • Cut 1 ½” ribbon sections as well and set aside.
  • Trim all ribbon tails with a dovetail.

Adding Your Tails

  • Once your ribbons are prepped, grab one of 2 different Halloween ribbons, pinch in center and lay inside a chenille stem spot on your rail.
  • Once secure in place, spread your ribbons to make an “x”. All tails will face out.
  • In every other chenille stem, add a 3rd tail ribbon to make it funky and fun. These groups of 3 ribbons will be placed in every other spot.
  • Spread out ribbons to really stand out.
  • Be sure they are in there nice and tight within your chenille stems.

Adding Your Funky Bows

  • Grab your 1 ½” ribbon and measure out 26” and fold in half. Then fold again, so it looks like a taco, and then cut towards the hems to get the dovetail look on your ends.
  • Grab it about 4-5” down from loops and pinch it. Fluff your loop. Kick the top layer of your ribbon tail up, to move aside as you twist the under layer. This will allow for both of your ribbon tails to be facing forward.
  • Repeat steps to make 4 funky bows.
  • You will add these funky bows all over the center of your Halloween ribbon tails you just added, by undoing your chenille stem tie and insert.
  • Play with the tails of your funky bows, having some face up and the other facing down. Just have fun with it.
  • Fluff your loops and ribbon tails to face forward.
  • Twist your chenille stems a few more times to make them extra secure.
  • Then trim them at the quick with your wire cutters, so they are not visible.

Double The Fun

  • Repeat these steps with your second witch rail! So simple and stinking cute.
