Funky Bow Delight

Instructions

Prepping Your Wreath(s)

  • Grab your small oval grapevine wreaths and keep it rustic if you like. Or, you can clean it up a bit. Shake it, slip it, trim it.
  • FYI* This project will have 2 wreaths on my double door front entry way, so I am making 2 of this exact wreath. The double bows will mirror each other as you walk up to my home.

Making Larger Than Life Handmade Bows

  • Using something like a dowel rod, or anything to keep your spool of red polka dot 2 ½” ribbon in place as you work, pull off a good amount of ribbon to allow you to create your first loop with an 18” long tail. This loop should be about 7-10” long. Pinch and twist to create your next loop, and repeat as you make 4 total loops for this large bow. Keep your loops the same length.
  • Use the phrase, “Pull, twist, loop” as you create your layers for each bow.
  • Cut from the spool and grab your next 2 ½” blue star ribbon. The loops and tails of this layer of bow will just be an inch shorter from your first layer. You will add this to your first layer of bow remembering to pinch it, twist it, loop it for a total of 4 more loops in your second layer of bow. Trim from spool.
  • Adding one more layer of ribbon of red and white striped ribbon, about 17-18” in all, repeating these steps remembering to come in a little bit shorter with 4 loops for this layer.
  • Keep it tight in your hand.
  • Grab a “Punch” ribbon to add some pizazz to this bow. 1” star ribbon, with another 4 loops, creating a 16 loop bow in all for this grapevine.
  • At the center of your bow, hold together nice and tight with a zip tie. Trim excess.
  • Set aside.
  • Begin making a second bow, repeating these same steps, including the same order of ribbon as you did before.
  • Adjust your tails and loops to be nice and full, in their right place, fluffed, and facing forward.
  • Then grab that zip tie. Repeating the steps, “Zip it, clip it, forget it!”
  • With a second zip tie, slide it through to help you be able to attach to your wreath.

Adding Your Bow (Wreath for Left Side Door)

  • With your zip tie on your bow, you will attach to your grapevine at about 10-11 o’clock position. Do not attach it to the diameter.
  • Instead, attach your bow with a zip tie through the guts of your grapevine, weaving in and out to help it stay in place.
  • Trim your tails with dovetail design. You can have your tails at different lengths. Roll them up to add a bit of fancy.

Adding Sprigs of Greenery

  • Grab 2 tiny sprigs of your favorite greenery to add a punch of fun. Insert, poking out from behind the bow on the right side of your grapevine.

Adding Some Picks and Stars

  • Grab your red, white, and blue felt ball picks and eyeball where they will stick out best on the right side of your bow.
  • Roll with your 2 fingers. These are adjustable, so play with them to your liking.
  • Hot glue end and insert.
  • Grab a star pick and place it inside your grapevine peeking from behind your bow.
  • The bow says it all!

Creating Your Mirror Image Wreath (Right hand side)

  • When adding your handmade bow from earlier in the project, you will add this with your zip tie at the 1 o’clock position on your grapevine.
  • Remember to go through the guts to secure.
  • Repeat the steps as you trim your tails, fluff your loops, and create a symmetrical look with your first wreath.
  • As you are adding your symmetrical greenery picks, stars, and embellishments, you will place them to the left side of your large handmade bow.
  • This mirror image of 2 patriotic wreaths will change your front door step for the better.
  • Have fun and happy crafting!
