Halloween Swag

Instructions

  • Build Base
  • Trim some of the longer evergreen branches a couple of inches
  • Using 21” mesh, make a 4” tail and tie in with pine tines
  • Make five 10” poufs down the left side of base, decreasing the size as you go
  • Flip to the other side continuing with poufs
  • Continue with same pattern but in opposite directions (starting with smaller loops at the bottom and increasing as you go up)
  • Fluff out poufs
  • With 10” mesh cut eight 25” strips
  • Make ruffles, folding the raw edge under
  • Add 4 ruffles to each side; tucking the ruffles all the way to the metal spine
  • Make three 15” woodland ruffles, add down center of swag
  • Cut off the end tail of the evergreen base
  • Make Bow & Roller Coasters
  • Using 4” ribbon, make roller coaster starting at top and going diagonally across with about 4” tails; repeat a second roller coaster near the bottom in the same manner
  • Make a bow starting with 4” ribbon, 10” inch tail, pinch, twist, 10” loop x2, second tail to match the first
  • Using 2-½” ribbon, 10” tail, pinch, twist, make 91/2” loop x2, match second tail to first
  • Using 1-1/2“ ribbon, 10” tail, pinch, twist, make 8” loop x2, match second tail to first
  • Using 2-½” ribbon, 10” tail, pinch, twist, make 7-½” loop x2, match second tail to first
  • Using 1-½” ribbon, 10” tail, pinch, twist, make 6” loop x2, match second tail to first
  • Tie together with pipe cleaner
  • Pre-fluff the loops and dovetail ends at varying lengths
  • Add bow to center of base with 20” pipe cleaner
  • Prep and Add Sprays/Picks/Funky tails
  • Separate initial spray into smaller pieces
  • Use larger piece at bottom of base and tie with pine tines
  • Trim other pieces into smaller pieces and fill in with hot glue throughout the base
  • Make a Funky tail (or half bow); take about 24” of the 4” ribbon, fold in half and pinch about 4” down, twist one tail to front
  • Continue in this manner with other ribbons, varying the size of the loops
  • Layer each ribbon on top of the other to make a cluster bow
  • Use one ribbon for a tail, placing the short end at top and the longer end at bottom
  • Dovetail ends
  • Attach with pipe cleaner and add to spray at base of swag
  • Make funky tails using step #4 with one 2-½” ribbon and add in couple of empty spots
  • Trim other sprays/picks into smaller pieces and add throughout the base and large bow
