Mantel Madness Christmas Tobacco Basket

Instructions

Attach Garland for Tobacco Basket:

  • Measure evergreen garland along one side and bottom of basket, and cut.
  • Unfurl and separate branches of entire length of garland.
  • Attach to basket by inserting one branch through basket weave and twisting with another branch to secure, or fasten to basket with floral wire.

Attach Mesh Ruffles:

  • Cut twelve to thirteen, 17-inch lengths of red mesh.
  • Cut twelve to thirteen, 21-inch lengths of white mesh.
  • Create ruffles by rolling unfinished edges of mesh inwards two or three turns, then crumple mesh together towards the center.
  • Attach to garland by twisting pine tines around center of cinched mesh.
  • Insert and fill around garland, alternating between the red and white mesh..

Create and Attach Bow:

  • Measure 12 to 14-inch tail of widest ribbon (4-inch), pinch ribbon inward, turn ribbon over, and create a loop from back to front.
  • Pinch ribbon and twist to right-side, and loop again from back to front.
  • Pinch where ribbon meets in center to have right-side showing for the tail.
  • Repeat steps 1-3 with second 4-inch ribbon, creating same sized bows on top of first bow.
  • With third ribbon (2 ½-inches), repeat steps 1-3, making slightly small loops.
  • With fourth ribbon (2 1/2-inches), create bow the same size as third ribbon.
  • With final two ribbons (1 ½-inch), create two bows following the same method.
  • Secure bow in center with a zip tie.
  • Insert zip tie through corner of basket/garland and use to attach bow loosely.
  • Adjust bow and trim ribbon tails.
  • Once adjusted, tightern zip tie to secure bow.

Attaching Candy Cane Lollipops:

  • Position first lollipop in basket and attach with zip tie.
  • Position second lollipop lower and in front of first lollipop and secure with zip tie below bow area to hide.
  • Further secure zip ties with a bit of hot glue.

Attaching Ornament Garland:

  • Attach ornament garland at end of garland and mesh.
  • Insert and weave ornament garland through two both sides of basket and attach to opposite end of pine garland.
  • Attach with zip ties or floral garland where extra support is needed.

Insert Sprays, Poinsettias, and Foam Ornaments:

  • Separate two large jeweled floral stems into smaller bunches.
  • Adjust, then attach with hot glue.
  • Trim two large poinsettia stems, adjust, and attach with hot glue.
  • Separate and trim floral ball stem.
  • Attach six floral balls with hot glue, and attach one in the center of the bow
  • Separate and trim large berry stems.
  • Insert and attach with hot glue.
  • Insert wood skewer into base of two foam ornaments and secure by twisting stems around skewer and further securing with hot glue.
