Instructions

Preparation:

  • Use pipe cleaners to secure mesh pieces around the frame, aligning them with divots for an even base.
  • Cut mesh pieces to about 22-24 inches and alternate between two colors or patterns.

Building the Base:

  • Curl the ends of the mesh to prevent fraying, scrunch the center, and attach to the frame in a bow-tie or waffle shape.
  • Work systematically around the outer and inner rings of the frame to fill all sections.

Adding Ribbon Tails:

  • Use three ribbon styles (Harlequin, glitter, and tinsel) cut to approximately 14-15 inches.
  • Create patterns alternating ribbon designs, fluffing as you go to add volume and texture.
  • Optionally include “baby bows” for additional dimension.

Creating and Placing a Bow:

  • Start with the 2.5" Harlequin ribbon bow creating a 7" tail.
  • Then pinch and twist and create a 7" loop.
  • Then pinch and twist and create a 7" loop on the opposite side.
  • Leave a 18" tail and trim.
  • Using the same ribbon, add one more 7" tail.
  • Then pinch and twist and create a 7" loop.
  • Leave a 7" tail and trim.
  • Next, use the 1.5" striped glitter ribbon creating 1 slightly smaller loop on each side.
  • Next, use the 7/8" Gold Glitter Ribbon to create a single loop on one side and two loops on the bottom.
  • Add a single tail using 2.5" harlequin ribbon.
  • Secure ribbon with pipe cleaners.
  • Position the bow at the center or side of the wreath for balance.

Enhancing with Foliage:

  • Use decorative leaves or other fillers to add dimension and reinforce the Mardi Gras theme.
  • Attach using hot glue and pipe cleaners for extra security, ensuring even distribution around the wreath.

Finishing Touches:

  • Fan out ribbons and mesh for fullness.
  • Optional: Add a large focal decoration (e.g., mask, ornaments) or additional ribbon tails.
