Periwinkle Sunflower Wreath

Equipment

  • hot glue gun or glue pot
  • Scissors
  • Wire cutter or stem cutter

Materials

  • 1 16" grapevine DecoExchange
  • Lambs ear picks Walmart
  • Sunflowers item# 29432BL DecoExchange
  • Lavender stems Walmart
  • Mixed color floral filler Dollar General
  • 1 2.5" white cabana stripe ribbon DecoExchange
  • 1 1.5" white cabana stripe ribbon DecoExchange
  • 1 1.5" faux burlap ribbon DecoExchange
  • Pipe cleaners/Zip ties
  • Optional: additional filler greenery or florals

Instructions

Prep your grapevine

  • The back of your grapevine wreath will be the flatter side.
  • Clean up the grapevine wreath using small clippers or sand paper to avoid any sharp edges.
  • Pull out any pine needles.
  • Determine where you'll be working your design in by pick the "ugly" less symmetrical section. Your florals should cover up those sections.

Design with ribbon

  • Stack your 2.5" white cabana stripe ribbon and 1.5" faux burlap ribbon and lay against your wreath base to decide the length of your ribbon tails.
  • Pinch at the desired the length and secure with a brown pipe cleaner.
  • Secure to the grapevine, clipping excess pipe cleaner.
  • Create a billow and secure the end to the grapevine with a brown pipe cleaner.
  • Leave a longer tail between 15"-17"
  • Curl up the longer tails.

Create bow #1

  • Start with the 2" ribbon. Start with about an 7"-8" tail.
  • Create a 7"-8" loop, adjust as need for your wreath.
  • Create a 2nd loop of the same size, give the ribbon a pinch and twist.
  • Create a 3rd loop of the same size, leaving a slightly longer tail around 10"
  • You can use bow making tool to hold your different bow layers.
  • With your 1.5" faux burlap ribbon start with 7" tail and create a 5" loop pinch then twist.
  • Create a 2nd loop of the same size, give the ribbon a pinch and twist.
  • Create a 3rd loop of the same size, leaving a slightly longer tail around 10"
  • Add your bow to the bow maker to hold, keeping the side with 2 loops opposite of the 2 loops from the previous bow.
  • Next, with the 1.5" white cabana stripe ribbon, start with about an 10" tail.
  • Create a 4" loop, pinch and twist.
  • Leave a slightly shorter tail.
  • Insert into bow maker
  • Secure all the layers together with a pipe cleaner.
  • Secure the first bow at the top of your billow with a zip tie.
  • Dove tail tails.
  • Fluff out bow.

Create bow #2

  • Start with the 2" ribbon. Start with about an 6"-7" tail.
  • Create a 4"-5" loop, adjust as need for your wreath.
  • Create a 2nd loop of the same size, give the ribbon a pinch and twist.
  • Create a 3rd loop of the same size, leaving a slightly longer tail around 10"
  • With your 1.5" faux burlap ribbon start with 10"-12" tail and create a 3"-4" loop pinch then twist.
  • Create a 2nd loop of the same size, give the ribbon a pinch and twist.
  • Create a 3rd loop of the same size, leaving a slightly longer tail around 10"
  • Next, with the 1.5" white cabana stripe ribbon, start with about an 5-6" tail.
  • Create a 2" loop and 5-6" tail.
  • Next, with the 1.5" white cabana stripe ribbon, start with about an 10" tail.
  • Secure with a pipe cleaner.
  • Secure the second bow at the bottom of your billow with a zip tie.
  • Dove tail tails.
  • Fluff out bow.

Adding stems

  • Start with the lamb's ear, cut down stems.
  • Bend stems slightly so they go into the grapevine following the natural curve of the wreath base.
  • Add stems opposite sides of each bow, and work in additional lamb's ear stems.
  • Hot glue stems in place.
  • Incorporate stems into bow.
  • Add pops of color using lavender stems or any other colored stems.
  • Hot glue into place as you move along.
  • Bend stems so blend together naturally.
  • Incorporate filler flowers and add periwinkle sunflowers as your main flowers.
  • Give your design a skim and fill in as needed with greenery or floral stems.
  • Fluff out bows.
