Rag Bow

Instructions

Prep and cut your fabric

  • Fold fabric in half
  • Cut notches all the way along the folded edge about an inch and half apart. You are just making them about an inch and half. They do not have to be perfect
  • Now hold a piece of each side of a notch of fabric in your hand and pull them apart
  • Repeat all the way down your fabric separating where you made your notches
  • If you do not like the stringy fabric look you can use your rotator cutter and make a clean cut.

Starch your fabric

  • Be sure to starch your fabric lights to dark because some may bleed
  • Put latex gloves on your hands
  • Grab your container to hold your starch
  • Using Sta-Flo liquid starch dump entire bottle into container
  • Do not mix with water
  • Place fabric into container and let it soak the fabric strips soak up the starch
  • Swish your fabric around and make sure it is all saturated
  • Pull out each fabric individually and run your fabric through your fingers to get excess starch out.
  • Hang to dry on a fabric rack and let them dry completely, DO NOT DRY IN THE DRYER

Arrange fabric strips

  • Grab your EZ Bow maker
  • Using a fabric strip holding on each end find your center by folding it in half.
  • Pinch it and lay it into your EZ bow maker. Laying your talis flat on the table vs. hanging down.
  • Repeat this process alternating fabric colors and patterns.
  • Making about 20 tails on the bottom

Make the bow part

  • Take a strip of fabric find the middle make a loop at 6 inches
  • Make another loop, twist it and leave tails pointing down and start setting in to EZ bow maker
  • Repeat making two bows one of each color.
  • All loops are normally about the same length
  • After using all the colors make a smaller bow right in the middle
  • Grab a color to break up the bow.
  • Using white make a four loop bow with each loop being about 3 inches in length
  • Lay it in EZ Bow maker
  • Make another 4 loop bow and lay in bow maker
  • You will notice you have layered your tails, long tails, medium, and really small.
  • Secure bow together with a cable tie.Cinch it just a little do not pull all the way tight
  • Light bow off EZ Bow maker and thread a cloth color wired behind the zip tie. This way you can attach to a wreath later
  • Cinch cable tie all the way tight once the wire is in place.

Add Bling Center

  • Found in the sewing section at a craft store you can place your bling in the center of bow.
  • Attach with a pipe cleaner incase customer does not like them.
  • Run pipe cleaner through the loop on the back of the bejeweled piece. Then use pipe cleaner to attach over the center of the bow.

How to make a mini rag bow

  • Using pieces that are similar in size in width all the way down each fabric strip
  • Fold fabric strips in half that have been starched
  • Use scissors to cut strips in half, do not rip these they will shred
  • Using EZ Bow maker, make 10 tails on each side.
  • Now make a 4 loop bow and lay on top of EZ Bow maker. Loops are about 3 inches in length
  • Make another 4 loop bow and place on top
  • Use a zip tie to secure the bow in the center
  • Add center bling if desired
